Charmouth is a quiet and friendly seaside village with a number of small shops and traditional Dorset pubs and restaurants which will gladly except families.
The beach is superb it has a mixture of sandy and pebbled areas, whilst the water is safe for children to play happily. There are a number of car parks close to the beach with cafes and public conveniences.
Charmouth and the surrounding coastline are famous for fossils. At the Heritage Coast Information Centre in Charmouth you can find out about the fossils found in the area and chat to someone who knows what to look for when fossiling...... maybe you too could find a 'lchthyosaur' like Mary Anning, who discovered the first one of its kind in England near Charmouth beach. At the Centre they can also give you information about the coastal and inland footpaths. All of which will take you across some incredibly beautiful land with views that will take your breath away.
